Making marinas great again with Majestic Marine Engineering

Making marinas great again with Majestic Marine Engineering

First established in the 1980’s as a ship maintenance yard in the traditional shipbuilding and repair yard of Jadaf in Dubai, Majestic Marine Engineering has been repairing and subsequently manufacturing boats and related equipment for more than 20 years.

In 2004 the company produced its first floating pontoon for the Abu Dhabi Coast Guard Marina Construction Division and it was from there that the company had an exponential growth in the marina industry, fast becoming one of the leading companies in its field.  The early pontoons were made out of steel but after extensive research and development, a fusion of timber and FRP materials was used to produce the first Majestic FRP pontoons.

Since then Majestic has participated in the Dubai International Boat Show every year since 2009, and for the 2017 edition Majestic are planning to revolutionise the marina industry by exhibiting exciting new designs with new materials.

Ahead of that though were able to talk to Majestic Marine Engineering Business Development Manager Ian Misselhorn to discuss creating some of Dubai’s most prestigious marinas, as well as what its like to face down a herd of hippos on a broken boat...

WHAT THEY SAY:

“The opening of the Dubai Canal is the biggest event of the year and will have a massive effect on the boating industry.”

“DIBS provides a fantastic day out to experience all that the boating industry has to offer from small wake boarding boats to massive yachts and of course a wide array of products.”

What are you most looking forward to showing off at DIBS 2017?

We have plans to exhibit our new 2017 model pontoons with new colours and materials.  Furthermore we’re also looking forward to showcasing the marinas that we have completed and commissioned during 2016.

Majestic initially concentrated on constructing 23 fishing marinas on the east coast of the UAE but has since progressed onto producing some of the most state of the art marinas and walkways in the Middle East.  Our pontoons continue to prove their design strengths year after year and we are now planning on leading the marina industry into an exciting new era using our innovative FRP products.

Why should visitors come down and chat with you at the event?

Why should visitors come down and chat with you at the event?

Majestic is offering clients innovative cost effective design solutions focusing on the life cycle cost of the products.  In the past year alone we’ve produced two of Dubai’s most prestigious marinas in and our quality speaks for itself.

We also offer pontoons that are far more durable and adaptable in the long term as marinas needs evolve.  The design and level of quality that we are bringing to the market cannot be reproduced by our competitors, while we have noticed some of our pontoons being refurbished and adapted to new requirements which is possible with an FRP pontoon but rarely possible with concrete and aluminium pontoons.  After 10 or 20 years, old gel coats, decking and fenders can easily be replaced with new materials basically restoring them to new pontoons at minimal cost.  We welcome visitors to come and discuss their marina and marine requirements with us.

What do you feel are the most important trends in the region’s maritime industry and which ones are you particularly excited about?

The opening of the Dubai Canal is the biggest event of the year and will have a massive effect on the boating industry which in turn directly affects the marina industry.  Many new opportunities look to be evolving not only with marinas but also with floating houses and facility buildings.  FRP pontoons and products are the best suited products with long term maintenance in mind and we will be working with the relevant consultants to find the correct solutions for these structures.

At this year’s DIBS we are asking our visitors to embrace an ocean adventure, so do you remember the first time you were ever on a boat, and what kind of adventure were you on?

Yes, I was on a fishing trip at Lake St. Lucia in South Africa.  My father had rented a boat for our holiday and we went out in the morning to fish.  During the course of the day we had started to have a bit of a problem with the engine and suddenly in the afternoon some bad weather came up.  We packed up and got ready to go back to the marina when we realised the engine had broken. It all became really terrifying when we saw a herd of hippos slowly moving towards us and it was only at the very last minute that the engine suddenly started and we manage to limp back to the marina. It was all pretty scary but had a happy ending fortunately.

What else are you most excited about ahead of DIBS 2017?

DIBS provides a fantastic day out to experience all that the boating industry has to offer from small wake boarding boats to massive yachts and of course a wide array of products.  There are many new products and boats that are exhibited each year and there is always something new to see and experience.

Exhibiting at DIBS always allows us to reaffirm our presence in the marina industry.  We are well known in the industry now so we do receive a few new faces each year and have the chance to reconnect with old colleagues and Clients.  We always pick up new leads and some smaller projects and this makes it an ideal show to be present in.  Exhibiting our new products will give us an advantage in time to come as Clients become more experienced in what they are purchasing and consider quality, value for money and after sales service as key decision criteria.
